He must be the Kenny Fraser who used to drive the train from the Mound to Dornoch via Embo and Skelbo in the 1950s but he was much heavier built by then. Comment left on 25 March 2009 at 14:38 by Kenneth Mackay now Empangeni born Embo 1939
I have just been told by my cousin Tom Mackay (Tommy aigh Lula) now living in the USA that this Barbara Mackay is my paternal great aunt and the very famous Granny "Roy" who was the wife of Kenneth Mackay. Tom knew Barbara when he was a child and living in Embo in the 1930s. Barbara was the daughter of Lucy Mathieson(Kildonan/Helmsdale) and George Mackay ("Roy" from Embo) and she was the mid wife and mortician in Embo for many years. Barbara and Kenneth Mackay married at Poles, Dornoch on the 16/11/1869 and had six children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. When married Barbara was aged 19 years and Kenneth, a widower, was aged 54 years. One grandson, a Kenneth Mackay, retired as a senior policeman in Inverness and great grandson Dr Tom Mackay, is a consultant physician in Edinburgh. This picture was taken at 1 Terrace Street in the late 1920s. Tom Fraser and his younger brother Kenny were both drivers on the Dornoch line and later on the main line, Wick to Inverness. Kenny married in Wick and continued on this route but Tom, the heavier built of the two, returned to the Dornoch line and was the driver on the last train.
The grandson of Mrs Barbara Mackay (Roy) who was a senior policeman in Inverness was Kenneth Ross B.L.. He was Chief Constable of Sutherland, later Ross and Sutherland Constabulary and retired as Deputy Chief Constable of the Northern Constabulary.

The Kenny Fraser in the picture was my mothers uncle on her own mothers side Comment left on 12 May 2011 at 20:02 by Tommy Mackay
Granny "Roy" was my Granny's cousin and Babby "Broon" was quick off the mark to tell me the connection to her. My gran was Maggie Mackay who lived most of her life in Aberdeen. I have not been up to Embo this last year or two due to illness but I will get there yet.

I'm the granddaughter of her grandson, Kenneth Ross (chief constable). Barbara Tulloch, who commented in 2010, was my grandfather's sister and she kept our family history. Comment left on 04 October 2021 at 22:25 by Caroline Ross
The man in the picture Kenneth Fraser is my maternal grandfather. He worked on the railway and moved to Wick when he married my grandmother. They had 3 daughters. I am the daughter of Kenny's oldest daughter Fay. The lady, Barbara Mackay, is my great, great Grandmother. My mum spent many happy holidays in Embo. I continue to visit Embo several times a year for holidays.-
