International Twenty Match badge - Robert Mackay 1893
Badge (a) in the form of a blue enamelled bar with a raised silver metal shield in the centre with the Scottish royal crest. Silver lettering on the bar reads 1893. The back is stamped with the maker's mark J ROBERTSON & SON 101 PRINCES ST EDINBURGH. Based on 2006.086.066, this badge is assumed to be in recognition of membership of the Scottish team in the International Twenty match but on an occasion when Scotland did not win.
The badge fits into a deep-lidded presentation box (b), which is covered in blue paper, faded round the sides of the box. The base of the box is lined with black velvet and the lid with red silk which has lost almost all its pigment. The cross threads have decayed so that the silk is shredded.
Part of the Robert Mackay collection.
