Photocopy of an article from The Pilot March 16 1995 by Lillian Ross Pippitt entitled 'Ross Daughter Tells His Story'. An attempt by his daughter to set the record straight about Donald Ross' career in America. Written when his daughter was 85 years of age. A second copy has annotation by Elizabeth Shapiro: "NC Southern Pines North Carolina. My mother wrote this in 1995. She heard from various 'relatives' throughout the years and was fed up. For the record Donald Ross had no 'cousins', 'nephews' or 'brothers' (other than Alex Ross and Aeneas Ross) who were or are in any way affiliated with golf! The three nephews he had any contact with in his life time were Tom Brown, Donald Calder and George Calder."

My father was Donald Calder, DJR's nephew. While he and his brother, George, were brilliant golfers, and my dad learned club-making from his uncles at the Dornoch course, I can confirm none of the nephews went into the business. Which was a shame but a reality of the time. My father went worked for Standard Life Assurance after the war, and for all his career, and emigrated to Canada in 1951. I have three brothers, Roy, Donald, and John, and I am Jane, the youngest. My father was in close touch with his cousin, Lillian, and with her kept the memory and accurate history of DJR alive. For the record, Auntie Lillian was one of the loveliest ladies ever! Comment left on 09 March 2009 at 19:18 by Jane (Calder) McElligott
