I AM FAIRLY SURE THIS IS NOT EMBO, PERHAPS BALINTORE OR ONE OF THE OTHER ROSS-SHIRE SEABOARD VILLAGES.

I have studied this picture for some time and I am sure that it is not of Embo. The houses in the picture don't fully ring bells with me. In addition to this the sand dunes to the right of the picture are for a start in the wrong position for Embo. Embo's sand dunes overlooked the sea to the East of the village. The village houses were behind and at right angles to these dunes. There are some such large dunes to the North of Embo but these are some distance from the village. In addition it appears that there are many fishing nets drying on poles in these sand dunes and Embo fisherfolk in the main used baited long lines to catch their fish. I am also fairly certain that it is not Golspie either. I cannot say if this is a photo of Brora as in my young days in Embo in the '40s and '50s, Dornoch and Golspie were about the furthest we ever ventured from the village as Shank's pony was our usual mode of transport.
