Documents relating to Admiral Sir William Tennant KCB, CBE, MVO, Admiral Commanding the Mulberry Harbours 1944. The Mulberry Harbours, huge concrete casements were floated across the Channel to provide the vital harbour for landing stores and equipment in support of the D-Day landings in Normandy. With the success of this operation Admiral Tennant was awarded the decoration of Commander of the British Empire (CBE) and United States Legion of Merit. As a family friend Admiral Tennant and his wife stayed with the grandmother of the donor, Mrs S G Maudslay at West Shinness Lodge, Lairg between 1927 and 1959.
