Unpublished memoir of Donald Grant who was born in the 1890s.
It opens with the tale of George Grant born in 1782 who joined the army in lieu of his elder brother (because he was better educated) following the call from the Countess of Sutherland for one son from each family to fight in the Napoleonic War. George went on to survive the wars and returned home in 1816.
