Fibre Fest - ‘Costume Exhibition’
For the two days of the Fibre Fest, Historylinks Museum mounted an exhibition in the entrance hall to the Dornoch Hub showing gowns on loan from Grantown Museum inspired by film and TV such as ‘Outlander’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Downton Abbey’. The costumes were all created by Suzi, a volunteer, for the Grantown Museum ‘Adventures in Costume’ Project. She lovingly produced the costumes from difference periods in history, true to the original fabrics, using an array of silks, linen and muslin with intricate hand embroidering. In addition to the Hub exhibition, Historylinks Museum was open throughout the Fibre Fest for visitors to see the on-loan gown from 1710 that belonged to Katherine Gray of Overskibo. Made from exquisite silk woven in Spitalfields, London and despite being altered up to 4 times over the years, the colours of the brocade fabric are almost as vibrant as the day it was made. The popularity of these additions to the Fibre Fest weekend were evident by visitor numbers
