A copy of a page from ‘Kelly's Handbook to the Titled, Landed and Official Classes’ 1926 edition with details of Miss Lyon’s father Cmdr Alexander Lyon. Kelly’s Handbook as first published in 1875 had the suffix ‘The Upper Ten Thousand’ providing alphabetic listing of noble families. Its rival publications included Debrett’s Peerage (1769) and ‘Who’s Who’ (1849). With the passage of time each publication widened its scope to include biographical information of notable people. It ceased publication in 1973
