Orient Gene's Rapid Covid-19 (Antigen) Self Test Kit
At the end of 2021 a new Orient Gene's Rapid Covid-19 (Antigen) Self-Test Kit (commonly referred to as the 'Lateral Flow Test') was distributed free of charge from pharmacies. This test kit differed from the previous test kit (see 2021_035_09 picture #14710) in that it was no longer necessary to swab the tonsils on each side of the mouth, followed by using the same swab in one nostril; in lieu the swabbing process was inside both nostrils. This change was considered a distinct advantage, the tonsil process inducing unpleasant, involuntary retching. The time for the new test to produce a result was also reduced from 30 mins to 20. With the onset of the Omicron Covid-19 variant in December 2021, with a high rate of infections, lateral flow self-testing became increasingly important. In keeping with the earlier version, the kit contained a pamphlet providing clear instructions on its use (see linked pdf).
