A large, sturdy leather trunk ultimately belonging to Warrant Officer Class 2 (WOII) E Williams, with his name and an address 261 West Princess St, Glasgow C4 and an encircled 2 on the upper lid surface. Probably the number 2 indicates there were two items for delivery to the address. The trunk dates from the WW2 period. There are stout carrying handles on either end of the trunk and the closing lid has two securing straps in addition to a brass lock, with folding leather protective cover and its own securing leather strap, a stout leather carrying handle and pairs of loops on either side for further leather strapping (the reverse side has single equally spaced loops). The top side are studded and the bottom side has two lateral wooden runners, originally with four small metal rollers, only one of which remains. There is a paper label affixed to the right hand end of the trunk (when facing the locking side) which bears details of a previous owner. The label was affixed for a voyage on a Vessel (only 'SS' discernable) for the Cabin occupied by 'Sgt MacRae@ , Unit @Royal Fusiliers@, Destination 'Dover', Port of Disembarkation 'Southampton'. The trunk shows extensive wear and tear arising from it various journeys.
