The third document relating the personal experience of Gilbert Gray during the D-Day Landings provides detail, with accompanying coloured postcard. of the RAF 106 Squadron D-Day target of coastal defences at Pointe-du-Hoc. The details read: "The famous Pointe du Hoc: It is right against this abrupt and crumbly cliff that on June 6, 1944 the second battalion of the US Rangers launched the assault, with the help of ropes and folding ladders, in order to reduce the battery whose firing could have been dangerous to the troops landing at Omaha Beach".
