
'Crappit Heids for Tea' by Fraser and Gray
'Crappit Heids for Tea - Recollections of Highland Childhood' by Iby Fraser and Ann Gray, introduced by Dr Annie-Marie Tindley and compiled by Chris Fletcher. 'Crappit Heids' are described at the top of page 39 as: "fish heads stuffed with a mixture of oatmeal, suet, chopped fish livers, onion and seasonings" . They were tied securely in greaseproof paper and simmered gently, The 98pp book was first published in 2012 by Birlinn Limited, Edingburgh and is compiled from the writings of Iby Fraser and Ann Gray who were both born in Shinness. It provides insight to th rural life of the Fraser and Gray families long established farming families. The accounts are held to "... open a small window onto the benefits and hardships of Highland gamekeeping and farming in the early 1900s, a time when attempts were being made by the Sutherland family to create better economic use of the land, bringing more people and prosperity to the Highlands". The are 16 pages of plates providing images of documents, paintings and monochrome photographs.
