Cartridge maker
Three part set of tools for making cartridges of various sizes. Further information needed on how they were used. All parts dirty and coated with oil. Donated by PC Roddy Mackay, who was the policeman in Dornoch for many years.
Audit 01 - all moving parts still work
Part (a) measures 208mm by 45mm and has two cylinders standing upright on a base, one is hollow, the other apparently solid with a pin projecting from the top. A shaped iron arm with a bulbous wooden handle pivots over the top of both from a support in between them.
Audit 01 - base has a raised leaf decoration around the edge. There are several letters/numbers inscribed on handle - one side has the number 12 and the words GAMES ?BLOCK with an illegible word underneath and several illegible numbers/letters under that. On the other side is 21?1C
Part (b) measures 255mm by 125mm and has a larger hollow cylinder open at one end, with a handle that turns at the blocked end. Another handle swings an arm with two grippers over the open end. An iron plate with teeth and thumbscrew above is fixed to the side of the cylinder.
Audit 01 - object would have been attached to table/bench. On the side of the handle is inscribed BUSCEV & CO LONDON and the number 12
Part (c) measures 125mm by 28mm and is a brass cylinder cap, apparently with a means of size adjustment, with a wooden handle projecting at right angles.
Audit 01 - at one side of the hollow cap is an incised measuring design with different measurements along both sides of it - on the left above it says SHOT OZ and below the amounts 1, 1 1/8, 1 1/4, 1 3/8 and 1 1/2. On the other side is above ?? VDER DRAMS and below the amounts 2 1/2, 2 3/4, 3, 3 1/8, 3 1/2. Next to all these running verically are the numbers 21070
Dimensions: Length 255mm - Width 125mm
