My reason for querying the sender's name was that I can't see any Duncan Mackay on 1841 Census for Birichen but I am aware that Duncan Ross, then living in Birichen, was married to a Margt Mackay and they had a son called Donald in Apr 1839 and could have been the child referred to in the letter. The transcription seems clear enough - perhaps the original was smudged !
