The photograph depicts Sergeant Alexander Innes Will, the senior Sergeant in the Sutherland Constabulary at the time this photograph was taken sometime in the early 1930s.

This would explain the presence of the numeral '1' on his collar. Of particular interest is the cap worn, as the peak appears to have some braiding on it which Constables' hats did not have.

Sergeant Will is wearing the Sutherland Constabular's own cap badge, which was replaced in the mid-1930s by the Scottish National police (Semper Vigil) cap badge.

Mr Will previously served as a Constable in Edinburgh City police, and transferred up to Sutherland in 1913 to fill the vacancy caused by the retiral of another PC Will (his father)

PC Will (junior) was promoted to Sergeant at Dornoch in 1922, and retired in 1937.
