Dr Struan Robertson on his 90th birthday

Colour photograph of Dr Struan Robertson taken on his 90th birthday 12th March 2010. Struan had been a GP in Glasgow and retired to Dornoch in 1984 with his Dornoch born wife, Rhoda (nee Macleod). He was a founding member of the Dornoch Heritage Society. With Jimmy Bell he surveyed archaeology sites in the Dornoch area, particularly the Evelix valley, and produced detailed finely drawn outlines of their findings.

In 2008 Dr Robertson and Dr Graham Park co-operated to produce a scientific account of the Evelix Valley. The 'Abandoned Buildings of the Evelix Valley, SE Sutherland - symptoms of the social and economic decline of a Highland Valley' by S J T Robertson and R G Park was launched at a Heritage Society meeting on 16 April 2009. The text is supported by drawings by Struan Robertson, plans with dimensions of sites, hut circles and buildings, panoramic views based on sketches by Struan Robertson, location maps and a selection of colour photographs showing the main sites and buildings in the valley.

I stumbled across this page only to find my old Dad so thank you History Links for that. He was a great family man and as kind a man as you would ever meet standing him in good stead as a well respected family GP. Your text mentions he was a Dornoch GP and although he and my mum retired to the house where my mother was born in Dornoch he was actually a GP in the west end of Glasgow for most of his practicing life.

As you mention his interests were many and varied which led him to a full life beyond retirement. A number of years ago I bought a copy of your excellent 'Dornoch Light Railway' DVD in which both my Mum and Dad were contributors.
