Rogart Treasure Now on Show
An extract from the Northern Times in 1981 with the title 'Rogart Treasure Now on Show', reporting the display in Inverness Museum and Art Gallery of the bronze Achvrail armlet found near Rogart in 1907. The armlet, of considerable local and national interest, is recorded as being "in superb condition... with an attractive glossy dark patina" and "shows skilled workmanship and beautiful design". The ornament with high relief decoration of 'trumpet domes' and keeled ridges or ribbons is in a style which allowed dating to the 1st-2nd centuries AD. The bulk of the £100,00 purchase price came from Inverness District Council's Common Good Fund, with grants from the National Arts Collections Fund, the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Local Museums Purchase Fund. See picture #12223 with report of the armlet sale by the Sutherland Trust to pay for repairs and restoration of Dunrobin Castle’s museum.
