An extract from Village Craic in the Northern Times of February 27 2015 reporting the showing of the film 'The Summer Walkers' at the February meeting of the Dornoch Heritage Society. Not often seen, this film showed the pearl fishers, hawkers and horse dealers of the north west Highlands. The travellers were not gypsies but indigenous, Gaelic speaking nomads with a particular moral code. The film portrays a unique contemporary portrait of their culture, lifestyle and crafts. The article concludes with detail of a talk at the March meeting by Essie Stewart, who was born into a travelling family and features in the film.
