Extract from the Northern Times 'From our old files' published on 19 September 2014 which contains reports: 50 years ago (1964) of discovery of a Bronze Age burial on the Helmsdale Melvich road; Sutherland County Council Civil Defence training; the purchase by Dornoch Town Council of the length of tartan, on which the Queen sat when signing the visitors book, and royal portraits during her recent visit; and plans for the opening of Dunrobin School for boys. 75 years ago (1939) the appointment of a food control committee; work to make garments for members of HM Forces; and an intimation the Thomas Mackay from Embo "has made the supreme sacrifice while on active service". 100 years ago (1914) a letter appealing for help for cavalry horses bearing the brunt of battle; members of the Dunrobin Rifle Club enlisting for service; and the arming of the Duke of Sutherland's yacht 'Catania' which has be lent to the Admiralty.
