An article published in the Northern Times of Friday 8 August 2014, recording Historylinks Museum's involvement in the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the start of World War 1. The war diary of Captain Ronald Rose, 1st Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) was acquired by the museum in 2008 (see 2008.141.01) with three associated photograph albums. The handwritten diary, which provides a most valuable record of the period 29 July to 16 August 1914, was transcribed and, with the addition of relevant photographs and maps, made available on the Historylinks website. As part of the WW1 commemoration 18 extracts of the diary were produced for serialisation on the Historylinks blog for the corresponding timeframe in 2014.

The article also records that, as a result of the Historylinks Museum website, an extract from the war diary and its postscript account 'My Life and Experience in the Army 1906-1918 by Cpl Honeyball (2011.093.01), were included in the address by the Dean of Glasgow Cathedral at the national commemoration service held in the Cathedral on 4 August 2014 in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales, Mr David Cameron the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
