The register, manufactured by Thomas O'Brien of Liverpool, is contained in a wooden box with a wooden spool and paper roll to record the transaction. The cash drawer beneath rings a bell on opening. When closed, it moves the spool on one space. There is a small glass window on the box lid with an open slot for writing . The label on the lid inside gives instructions about securing the register to a counter and the method of insertion of the paper roll.
