An account of the life of Duncan Munro who was born at Achmelvich on 12 August 1880 the eldest son of cattle drover Donald Munro and Margaret MacLeod. The family moved to Dornoch and around the end of the 19th century, like many of his countrymen, Duncan emigrated to Canada and became a lumberjack. He was amongst the many men of the Commonwealth who rallied to call to arms and served in France in WW1, was severely wounded and returned to Canada where as a wounded veteran he was given 10 acres of land on Vancouver Island. This he found difficult to work, passed on his brother and emigrated once again to New Zealand where he worked in copra in the Cook Islands and after first eloping, he married a Polynesian Princess and had ten children. He died in 1954 and is buried in Rarotonga. The fascinating story was submitted by his great niece and encapsulates research by various members of Duncan's extended family.

I am another great niece of Duncan Munro (not the great niece who submitted the Rarotonga Princess story) in the entry above, but I have added more information for this Munro family on No 10316 which hopefully will link these siblings together.
