Booklet of 84 pages and, originally, a 7 page Appendix with the title 'History of the Destitution in Sutherland - Being a series of letters published in the Edinburgh weekly Chronicle in the years 1840 & 1841; with an Appendix containing some additional information' by Donald McLeod. The booklet additional inscription at the foot of this page 'Edinburgh Printed for the Author At the Chronicle Office No 241 High Street MDCCCXLI'. There is a signature or handwritten annotation 'John Bannerman, Shoemaker , Helmsdale' at the foot of the page and some additonal handwriting at the top mainly illegible except for the name 'Thomas Jack Rae'. The 84 pages are double side printed, fragile, browned with age, all with torn edges and some with other damage. The Appendix has sufferedd more severe wear and damaged, only three or the original 7 pages being legible,
