Colour photograph of work in progress to develop the area surrounding the Mercat Cross in High Street Dornoch. From the outset of the development local residents considered the over large smooth granite columns and round plinth to be not in keeping with the architecture of the town. There was an immediate outcry reported in the press (see 2011.072.02 to 09) leading to the eventual removal of the stones and inappropriate paving. (see 2011.073.01 for restoration of this site in 2011)
