This Coat of Arms is actually a pen/ink drawing made by my late brother Alan Hamilton Bruce who a was an excellent artist. If you wish to see A colour copy of the Coat of Arms plaque please contact me. Comment left on 22 September 2011 at 07:11 by Anne Hamilton Bruce
The drawing is good but it is confusing. Because the standard convention for representing the tinctures (colouring) in heraldry has not been used, the impression given is misleading. The blazon (technical description) is: Quarters 1 and 4, for Bruce, Or a saltire and chief Gules, the latter charged with a fleur de lys also Or (gold and red); 2, not quite correctly drawn, is for Tyndall, Argent, a fess Gules cotised between three garbs Sable (silver, red and black); 3, for Hamilton, Gules a cross potent fitchy Or between three cinquefoils Argent (red, gold and silver.) The crest is a horse's head erased Argent, bridled Gules, with the motto above. The motto below is for Bruce. These arms were granted to Hamilton-Tyndall-Bruce of Grangehall and Falkland in 1873. To: Graeme Muckart. Thank you for your comment and observations on the Monochrome CoA of Hamilton-Tyndall-Bruce. I would like to mention that this was drawn in ink by my younger brother, then in his twenties and now deceased. It was copied from a CoA that was etched/engraved into the centre of a leather bound book. We had no colours at all to go by at this date and have since been to the Lord Lyons to get the proper detail and colours. As an amateur artist I think my brother did pretty well.
