This is the first time that I have seen a photograph of the residential units that have been built on the old Sutherland Arms Hotel site. They both look a bit stark and almost like the houses one sees in many parts of Germany. It's a pity that the architect could not have devised a means to hide the down pipes from the roof gutters as they distract from the buildings somewhat.
The Tudor style building on the left of the picture with the white painted upper floor and the corner bay window capped with a metal cupola was in the 1950s an annex of the Royal Golf Hotel. In the summer of 1956 when I worked in the Royal Golf Hotel as a waiter I was quartered in a wooden caravan behind the main hotel building but in the summer of 1957 I was promoted to a very comfortable room in this same building. I am not aware if this building is still part of the Royal Golf Hotel.
