In the left background is a bungalow type house which was the offical residence of the Embo station master. It was the first house at the bottom of "Cronc Hill" and to the left of the level crossing gates as one entered Embo by road. In the 1950's a Mr Dunbar was the station master and he lived in this house. In the 1911 Census newly released report, which was taken on the 2 April 1911, it shows that the then station master was a 32 year old widower Mr Robert Smith Nicol who was Gaelic and English speaking and who was born in Kilmuir, Easter Ross. (Kilmuir is a former fishing village on Nigg Bay, 4 miles north of Invergordon). His occupation is given as "Station Master" employed by the "Railway Coy (Highland)". The house's name is given in the census as "Station House". Staying with him in the house was his English speaking neice, a Margaret Dickson aged 22 years born in Edinburgh, Midlothian.
To the right of the picture can be seen the gable end of a stone house. This I believe was the building used as a police house in the 1950's and was also used as a "satellite police station". Comment left on 07 May 2011 at 17:47 by Kenneth Mackay

My mother-in-law's family lived here in the 1930's her 12 year old brother John Alexander Watson died at this address in 1936.
