Letter to Ann Mackenzie from John Davidson 1853

Letter and envelope found under the floorboards of the Eagle Hotel, Dornoch. The letter is addressed to Ann Mackenzie from John Davidson and the envelope is addressed to Marrion McKay at the Eagle Inn, Dornoch, postmarked Liverpool Aug 24 1853 and Aug 26 in Dornoch (see 2009_057_04). The postage stamp has been removed from the envelope (see 2009_057_03. The letter is folded in a concertina form with Ann Mackenzie's name within a diamond shape on the reverse (2009_057_02). The letter has "Dornoch 28 Aug?" at top right, with content "Dear Ann I write to you these few lines to let you know that I am in good health" with signature "John Davidson Post Dornoch" It is believed the envelope was used as a repository for the letter rather than used for its posting.
