The sleeve badge of rank is a crown signifying the rank of Major, albeit that other references are to the rank of Captain. The family headstone in Dornoch East Cemetery records that Captain W A MacDo nald 5th Seaforths fell in action at Forest of Rheims 23rd July 1918 and is interred as St Imoges, Eperny.
