Seaforth MacGregor - Transport

Hi, my foster parents were Jean and Seaforth MacGregor who lived in Dornoch until 1967. He had the buses there. They moved to Coatbridge and fostered many children. Jean was 39 when they married and Seaforth 49 so they had no natural children. They have both now passed on many years ago after moving to Portobello in Edinburgh. I am looking for any photos of the buses he had. I also remember he had a driver called John Gordon. We would come up on holiday in a big converted mobile shop and stay at Embo - granny's heiland hame. I am now in Australia but would love to hear from anyone who remembers them.

John and Thomas Murray

My uncle has come across some medals belonging to John and Thomas Murray. They were in the 71st Highland Light Infantry Regiment. Are they likely to be the Murrays from Dornoch I happened across in my search? It is impossible to say from the information we hold in the Museum whether these John and Thomas Murray's are from Dornoch. It is possible that someone else viewing the image library may be able to help. Administrator.

Re Murdo MacPherson Achvandra Muir, Dornoch

Since discovering your website, I have unearthed details of ancestors dating back to 1828 when John Macpherson married Christina Ross, and they stayed at Grumbie, Rogart. I can't find any history on Grumbie, and would be grateful if anyone could give me any more information.

Hello, is it Muriel? IS it information you are looking for about the Macphersons who stayed in Achinael, above Cambusmore lodge, back in about 1961 or some thing like that?

Hello, this is Muriel. Thank you for your reply, I just read it today. I don`t think that could be the same Macpherson family, but I could be wrong. I was born in 1947, and a frequent visitor to Dornoch over the years. I don`t recall the name Achinael, but I will check it,as I still have many relations in the Dornoch area. Thank you again, Muriel

Muriel - the Macpherson's moved from Grumbie to Achineal (near Torbol) so John Gordon's information would be interesting David (cousin)

Hi David, sorry for being so long in replying! I'm afraid I'm not very good on computers. I had to get my Grandson to come and sort it out! I'll have to reply to John Gordon too, as he was very helpful with his information. I keep in touch with your Mam, and no doubt she'll have told you the latest news! I was going to see if I could get your email address to tell you more. I'm hoping to go up to Dornoch before winter and catch up with every one. It's funny how things stick in your mind though, I always remembered about Grumbie, but Achinael didn't come to mind. I wonder when they moved there, do you know? I'm going away to Cowal with the Pipe band tomorrow, but I'll be back on Monday. If you're not on here, I'll try to get your email address

You folk are doing a wonderful job

What a great web site. So many useful comments, and updates on images etc and great feedback from old and not so old Dornochians! I'm surprised if this is really your first 'site' comment - you should have had more! Congratulations to all the in-house team, contributers, and supporters for their hard work on making this site a 'must visit again' winner. Thank you all, for bringing back so many happy memories.
